Last Mother’s Day I gave all the moms in my life (that I saw that day) these awesome face scrubbies. These cotton scrubbies were so soft that I had to make some for myself, and I am so glad that I did. They are the perfect exfoliators, whether you are removing make-up or scrubbing dirt, these get the job done without irritating your face. My sister-in-law likes them because they are easy to pack when she’s traveling. I was worried the 100% cotton would be a little harsh on my mom’s skin, but she’s asked me to make her more, which tells me they feel nice on even sensitive skin.
Since the seasons are changing, and Mother’s Day is only a few months away, here is a basic outline for making these scrubbies and a carrying bag. This is a great crochet gift for any woman or man in your life.
Sugar and Cream 100% Cotton
The face scrubbies pattern was taken from Craftaholics Anonymous. This is a pretty simple pattern to understand, but before you click over, I wanted clarify one of the stitches. The bobble stitch (bo) is very simple, yet for some reason it took me a few tries before I got it (I was watching the Oscars, so I was a little distracted).
Bobble stitch: *Yarn over, insert hook into the first stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through two loops. *Repeat this step two times in the same stitch. Yarn over, pull through two loops; yarn over pull through two loops. There should only be one loop left on your hook.
Here is the final result:
The scrubby bag is a fairly simple design.
Round 1: Start with a magic circle, sc three times.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st. (6 st)
Round 3: 2 sc in each st. (12 st)
Round 4: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next, repeat * around. (18 st)
Round 5: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2, repeat * around. (24 st)
Round 6: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3, repeat * around. (30 st)
Round 7: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 4, repeat * around. (36 st)
Round 8: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 5, repeat * around. (42 st)
Round 9: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 6, repeat * around. Sl st in first sc. (48 st)
At this point check to make sure your scrubby fits inside the circle. If you need to add more rounds increase by six stitches.
Round 10 – 21: Ch 1, dc in same st, ch 1, sk a st, *dc in next, ch 1, sk a st, dc in next, ch 1 repeat * around, sl st in first dc. Bind off, weave in ends.
Foundation Single Crochet stitch (FSC):
Step 1: Ch 2, insert hook into the second ch from the hook, yo pull up a loop, yo pull through 1 (creates a bottom ch), yo pull through 2 (first sc made)
Step 2: Insert hook into the bottom ch, yo pull up a loop, yo pull through 1, yo pull through 2 (2nd sc made) Repeat.
Cord: 70 Fsc. Bind off, weave in ends.
Weave the cord through the third dc row from the top of the bag. Pull and tie to close.
This is a quick and easy project that a crocheter at any level can make and give as a gift. Trust me, the people on the receiving ends will love it!
