I lost my status during Thanksgiving weekend. Suddenly, there is a new sheriff in town and only her opinion matters. Yes, once again, my family has fallen prey to the Elf on the Shelf. This is actually our third year with “Snowflake” our elf, but the first year she has arrived over Thanksgiving weekend. Usually my husband and I have a week before we have to remember to move her each night. But, this year Little C was insistent that she came the day after Thanksgiving. So, Thanksgiving morning, all our Christmas decorations came down from the attic and Hubby and I fished out and hid Snowflake before Little C could start exploring all the “new” stuff. Needless to say, the holiday season officially arrived last Friday in our household, at 8 o’clock in the morning, no less, when Little C started asking me to put up decorations.
It’s tough to disappoint the little one, though, she is so full of holiday cheer, it’s infectious. She’ll be 6 in January, and she’s in full on belief mode. I mean, she sees the Elf on the Shelf in stores, yet she really thinks the stuffed toy flies to Santa every night to report on how good she is. And, you know what? She has been really good.
I feel a little conflicted about misleading Little C. I want her to always trust me and her dad, but I also love the magic in believing. I love that this time of year we think about giving, about celebrating, about being with those we love and we make time for each other.
Oh, and it’s about oodles and oodles of crafting (of course I was going to get around to it). I’ve also started my holiday crafting. I have two projects in the works and hopefully will get to more.
The first is a holiday bouquet. I used the leftover snowflake flowers from my craft fair, and since I sold all the poinsettias, I made a bunch more for my bouquet. I still have more flowers to make, but I have nine in the mix right now. Little C is helping me make pompoms to fill up the vase. I might trim the stems a bit, but I think it will turn out pretty nice.
The second is a doily I wanted to make for a table in our living room. I am using cotton thread and a 1.3 mm hook, so it is taking a long time. On the plus side, I found that crocheting with a tiny hook and thread is really easy when you watch something intense on TV. Hubby and I just finished the first season of Stranger Things and my stitches have never been so tight!
Well, thank you for letting me vent a little about Elf on the Shelf (just so you know, I am not affiliated with this product in any way). We are all getting into the holiday spirit, thanks to Snowflake and definitely thanks to Little C. Hope all your crafting is merry! Happy Crocheting!
A crocheted bouquet, the perfect solution to keeping the flowers fresh during the holidays! I love your red and white doily. When I crochet which is nearly never, I use cotton thread and a tiny hook I found at my parents. I love a white doily!

Isn’t a crochet bouquet beautiful and practical? I know chunky yarns are in, but I just love the stitch detail in a thread project.

Ugh! Elf on the Shelf time! The kids at work started asking me if Mundo (our elf) is coming back this year. Last year, my husband gave me an Elf on the Shelf box and I had no clue what it was. He bought it as a resource for packaging and didn’t need it. I thought I would give it away as a prize before I knew what it was. A fellow co-worker said she would handle the elf and I only had to ‘remember’ to move him occasionally. Well, she’s gone on to better things and now I have to do it! LOL I’m waiting until next week though. 🙂

Put it off as long as you can! Little C ‘s Grandma said the Elf was coming on Thanksgiving 😝😡😫, now my daughter is crazy about the elf! I even had to crochet her an elf hat! I guess it’s all part of the season 🙂.
