Happy Halloween everyone!  I have been crocheting like crazy to get ready for another craft fair on the 11th.  But, unfortunately I have not been taking photos.  This could be because we haven’t had much sunlight, but if I am going to be honest, I just haven’t done it.  I blame my hubby (I mean, isn’t “sharing the blame” part of marriage?) he has been taking long weekends to use up vacation time and interrupting my work (how dare he;).  So, instead of crochet this week, I am going to show you some of the other crafty things we have done to celebrate this very spooky holiday!

We visited a Haunted House

It wasn’t a “regular” haunted house.  Our neighborhood is becoming known for their Halloween decorations, and people are coming all over to check out their displays.  My family’s favorite house this year was this crazy exterior.  The best part about it, other than the effects, is that they collect donations for local charities.

The display below of The Nightmare Before Christmas spans several houses in the neighborhood.

We volunteered for and attended the neighborhood Pumpkin festival

My husband and I have been going to our neighborhood pumpkin fest for over 10 years.  Each year it has gotten bigger and better.  The Wednesday and Thursday before the festival people come out to carve pumpkins, lots and lots of pumpkins.  We have volunteered for this fest for years, sometimes we gut the pumpkins, sometimes we set them on display, this year we moved pumpkins to be ready to be set up.  On Friday, we walked up for the “lighting of the pumpkins”, we saw a magician, fire jugglers, and the band.  Saturday we were set on the haunted hayride through the park.  It totally got my little one ready for Halloween.

We My family made a Haunted Gingerbread Chocolate House

I did not participate in the chocolate house, but I had to include it.  I mean, is my husband and daughter talented at decorating or what?  If it was me, it would be in pieces and I would have given up and just ate the candy and frosting.  They truly impressed me with their skill, and the fact that they didn’t eat it while they were making it.

I made some of my Halloween costume

Have you heard of that Disney movie that came out this summer?  I think it’s called Descendants.  If you haven’t heard of this movie, then you don’t have a pre-teen girl living in your house.  Little C is almost 6 and she is obsessed with this movie, so of course she had to be the main character Mal for Trick or Treat.  In the movie, Mal is the daughter of Maleficent, from Sleeping Beauty.  So, my daughter wanted me to be Maleficent.  My biggest issue was the horns that she wears.  Thankfully, this pin came to the rescue.  After the horns were made, I just wore black, and hoped people would recognize me.  I think they came out alright.

What are you being for Halloween this year?  Does your community do anything special for this holiday?  I promise, next week will be crochet!  Happy Crocheting!
