Remember way back in April when I proclaimed this was the Summer of Vests and I was going to rock the world with my vest creations? Okay, maybe not rock the world, but definitely rock my wardrobe. I had just completed my first vest, and started my second right away. What I didn’t expect was how booooring (Peppa Pig voice, anyone?) crocheting the same four rows can get.
Now, I shouldn’t say it was always booooring. Sometimes, when I just wanted to zone out on TV and crochet, this was a good piece to work on. But other times I got so zoned out the actual crocheting put me to sleep! Another reason this vest/shawl took so long to complete was the weather. As Summer evenings warmed to 70 and 80 degree weather, the last thing I wanted to do was make something that would cover me up! But, in Wisconsin, I know this hot weather won’t last forever, and eventually I will need something to cover my shoulders.
Right now, my shawl/vest is being blocked using a yoga mat, which is an idea I got from Mrs. Craft.
This is a very simple design that can be done with almost any stitch. All you do is make a big rectangle and two straps to go on each end.
Years ago I made a similar version with a simpler stitch. Here are some pictures of that vest.
So this is what it will look like when worn like a vest.
Wearing it over the shoulder or shoulders is always a great option on a cool night. I love how the ties help keep everything in place.
This isn’t the best picture, but you get the idea (realistically the ties cannot wrap around my waist). I haven’t worn the shawl this way, but I always thought it would be a cute idea after the gym, over compression pants, especially if I have to run an errand after.
So this is what my new vest/shawl will look like. I will post finished pictures soon. Hope everyone has a great rest of the week, and Happy Crocheting!
With a 3 year old Peppa is always on in our house so I totally got it…complete with British accent. Love the vest. Very cute.

Thanks! Peppa was on in the background while I was writing, somehow I always end up thinking in an English accent while it’s on!
